Zahin Quayyum
Ever since she was in high school, Zahin has been fascinated by the brain.
After conducting research as a high school student in a molecular neuropathology lab, studying the molecular characteristics of different neurodegenerative diseases, Zahin knew her future was in science and medicine. This passion extended into college, where Zahin completed her undergraduate degree in Biology with a minor in Psychology from Hunter College. After this, Zahin went on to work on her Master’s in Public Health in Epidemiology from SUNY Downstate Health Sciences University, and is planning on starting medical school in Fall 2025.
Zahin joined the RockEDU team as a Near Peer Mentor in March 2023, where she worked as a mentor to high school students participating in RockEDU’s Jumpstart program. After her experience with Jumpstart, Zahin stayed on for the Summer Science Research Program (SSRP) and helped co-create the SSRPeers program, which matches SSRP students with each other as a way to provide peer-to-peer mentorship and support.
She became the Community Program Coordinator in 2024, where she currently works on lab management and inventory, and managing the lab website and LinkedIn page.In addition to this, she also provides support to other RockEDU programming, such as BIOME, the Fellows Program, Jumpstart, and D4P.
In her free time, Zahin loves exploring NYC, finding and baking new recipes, and going on trips with her friends.
