What is BIOME?

By Lizzie Krisch

RockEDU: BIOME (Building Interactive Opportunities for Mentorship Education) is a virtual slack community that is designed to facilitate connection and collaboration among members of the scientific community at Tri-I (Rockefeller University, MSKCC, and Weill Cornell) around the theme of mentorship. This community launched in February 2021 and is open to members of the Tri-I community (Rockefeller, MSKCC and Weill Cornell)

BIOME exists on a foundation of D.E.I.A principles (Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Access) and aims to normalize the professionalization of strong mentorship skills while facilitating meaningful conversations and action around mentorship education. The community uses Slack as its central “hub” and invite community members to participate by consuming information from our Slack space and newsletter, attending any of our events (workshop series, one-time lectures, and/or weekly informal discussions), or contributing to the broader vision of our community in a collaborative capacity.

Currently, Mobilizing Mentorship, a weekly “drop-in” discussion on mentorship topics of interest, is the core program offered by BIOME. Learn more about it here!
